Taking care of a Tanzer 29 in 2024.

At the mooring, Prinyer’s Cove, Lake Ontario

Here’s what I did in 2024 to take care of my Tanzer 29:

Batteries

Charged, re-connected

Propane tanks

Connect

Rudder

Ground out the 5 cm crack at the bottom leading edge until I found dry material, about 1 cm deep. Going to let this dry out for a week or two just to be sure.

Lifeline stanchion

Aluminum base on starboard side broke off from its attaching screws from carrying weight of ice on the winter cover. Pure Ingenuity was able to modify the remaining base so that it can be re-attached to the toe rail.

Rudder

Ground-out area is nice and dry. Filled with thickened epoxy then 3 layers of fiberglass, then faired with thickened epoxy
Drilled out old sealant at drain plug, installed proper bronze garboard drain plug with insert. Sealed insert with 3M 4200 sealant.

Applied 4 coats of Interlux Interprotect 2000E barrier coating

Keel

Sanded 4-5 rust spots to bare metal, each about 4-5 cm in diameter

Water tank: 2 litres plumbing antifreeze, ran pressure pump with galley and head faucets open until they were spitting pink
Toilet: Pumped 2 litre of plumbing antifreeze
